The work

Write-up

Strachan O’Connor is a general-practice law firm in Wellington. Their old site was on Wix. We moved them to WordPress, built in Breakdance as a single, fast page that answers what someone looking for a lawyer actually wants to know: what the firm does, how it charges, who they’ll deal with, and how to get in touch.

One page, in the right order

  • Practice areas. Property, family, estate, trust, commercial and employment law, each a short card with its own hand-drawn line icon written as inline SVG. Nothing to load, sharp at any size.
  • How we work. The firm’s approach, including fixed fees for transactional work, set out plainly rather than buried in a paragraph.
  • The team and contact details, then the enquiry form, with the phone number in the header on every screen.

The page is built with proper structure: header and navigation landmarks, one heading per section in the right order, and anchor links in the menu that jump straight to each section. On a phone the menu collapses and every section stacks into a single column.

An enquiry form that does the sorting

  • Asks the useful question up front. Alongside name, email, phone and message, the form asks what the enquiry is about, with the practice areas plus “Something else”.
  • Arrives ready to answer. Each enquiry is emailed to the firm with the person’s name and the area of law in the subject line, and reply-to is set to the enquirer, so staff just hit reply.
  • Nothing gets lost. Every submission is also stored in WordPress, so there’s a record even if an email goes astray.
  • Quietly protected. A honeypot field catches spam bots and request checks block forged submissions, all without making real people solve a puzzle.
  • Kind failure. If something goes wrong, the error message gives the firm’s phone number, so a prospective client is never left stuck.
  • Autofill-friendly fields make it quick to fill in on a phone.

Built to change

Law firms change: people join and leave, and offices open or close. The card grids cap their column width, so a section with a single card stays a sensible size instead of stretching across the page, and sections can be added or removed without breaking the layout.
